Libya, Council of State rejects criticism from UN Special Representative Tetteh regarding the 4+4 committee

TRIPOLI (LIBYA) (ITALPRESS) – The Libyan High Council of State has rejected the characterization made by the UN Special Representative for Libya, Hanna Tetteh, who suggested that its stance on the outcomes of the “4+4” restricted meeting reflected a lack of willingness among some members to engage in the political process. In an official statement, the High Council of State asserted that this characterization trivializes an institutional position and ignores the constitutional and legal grounds upon which it is based.

The Council clarified that the dispute does not concern the dialogue itself, but rather the legitimacy of the process and its results, pointing to its own participation in the “6+6” committee—a body established under the thirteenth constitutional amendment. It further stated that rejecting a process that is constitutionally contested does not equate to a rejection of a political solution, and emphasized that adherence to the law is a prerequisite for consensus. The Council called on Tetteh to correct her characterization and urged the UN Security Council to support a process that respects national ownership and constitutional frameworks.
