Africa Cup of Nations, CAS ruling on Senegal’s appeal expected by late November

LAUSANNE (SWITZERLAND) (ITALPRESS) – It will take a month to reach a final decision regarding the most recent Africa Cup of Nations. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne has announced that, following the hearing held on October 8th concerning an appeal filed by Senegal, the panel has “decided to issue a full decision, including the legal reasoning—known as a CAS award. This process will take several weeks, and the award is expected by the end of November 2026.”
On January 18th in Rabat, the “Lions of Teranga” (Senegal) had defeated Morocco 1-0 after extra time in the Africa Cup of Nations final. However, two months later, the tournament’s appeals committee overturned this result, upholding a challenge from Morocco and awarding them a 3-0 victory by default—effectively handing them the trophy. Near the end of regulation time, several Senegalese players had walked off the pitch in protest against a penalty awarded to Regragui’s side. They later returned to the field, and although Brahim Diaz missed the ensuing penalty—which would have been the winning goal—Senegal ultimately secured the victory thanks to a goal from Pape Gueye. Senegal, having refused to return the trophy, subsequently filed an appeal against the African Confederation’s ruling with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
