ROME (ITALPRESS) – Fluminense goalkeeper Fabio is the player with the most official appearances in football history, reaching 1,391, one more than former England international Peter Shilton. The record was broken during Fluminense’s 2-0 victory over América de Cali in the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana, the Conmebol equivalent of the Europa League.

Fabio made his professional debut in 1997 and spent his entire career in Brazil, playing for Uniao Bandeirante, Atlético Paranaense, Vasco da Gama, Cruzeiro, and Fluminense.
