PSV, Bosz “Tough to face Conte, i admire his style of play”

PSV, Bosz “Tough to face Conte, i admire his style of play”

EINDHOVEN (NETHERLANDS) (ITALPRESS) – Peter Bosz is still looking for his first Champions League win with PSV Eindhoven. Tomorrow, the Dutch coach will face Antonio Conte’s Napoli. The Italian manager is a point of reference for many, including Bosz himself.

“What do I think about Italian football? The passion of the people is fantastic, and there’s always something beautiful to see in Serie A,” Bosz said in his press conference.

The PSV coach also spoke about some familiar faces in the Napoli squad, such as David Neres and Noa Lang. “I gave David his debut at Ajax — he came from Brazil, he’s a great player. As for Noa, if you don’t know him, you might have a stereotypical image because of his tattoos and the fact he’s a rapper. But I know him well — he’s kind, social, and very engaged with his teammates. He may not be the captain, but he’s been a leader for PSV over the past two seasons. I expected him to play more, but it’s always difficult for a foreign player to adapt to a new league. I spoke to him recently — he told me he’s training very hard. He’s very technical and will definitely get his chance. Why isn’t he playing? I don’t have to give advice to Conte — he’s a fantastic coach. As I said before, new players need time to adapt.”

Bosz also mentioned Ivan Perisic, who knows Conte very well. “I’ve spoken to him — I know he played under Conte for a long time, both at Tottenham and Inter. I’ve already faced Conte when I was at Bayer Leverkusen, and I know how hard it is to go up against him. What would I take from Conte? His style of play — his ability to adapt his teams to play with four, three, or five at the back.”

Potter announced as new Sweden head coach with a short deal

Potter announced as new Sweden head coach with a short deal

STOCKHOLM (SWEDEN) (ITALPRESS) – Graham Potter is the new coach of Sweden. He succeeds Jon Dahl Tomasson, who was dismissed following the defeats against Switzerland (0-2) and Kosovo (0-1) in Group B of the World Cup qualifiers.

The Scandinavians are still in contention for third place, and Potter’s contract expires at the end of the qualifying phase, in mid-November, and could be extended for the potential playoffs.

If the former Chelsea manager manages to lead Sweden to the World Cup, his contract would be extended again. This gives Potter a new opportunity after being sacked as manager of West Ham in the Premier League on September 27.

Man City, Rodri to miss Villarreal game

Man City, Rodri to miss Villarreal game

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Rodri will not play against his former club. The Spanish midfielder will not play in the Champions League match between Villarreal and Manchester City on Tuesday at La Ceramica. The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, City manager Pep Guardiola announced, has not yet fully recovered from the hamstring injury he sustained in the 2-0 win against Brentford on October 5.

“It’s not a long-term sideline, but given that it’s a muscular problem, we have to be careful,” Guardiola explained. The English club’s caution stems from Rodri’s history, having ruptured his cruciate ligaments last November, immediately after the Ballon d’Or ceremony, and subsequently missed most of the 2024-25 season.

Barcelona, Laporta “Miami match will benefit all clubs”

Barcelona, Laporta “Miami match will benefit all clubs”

BARCELONA (SPAIN) (ITALPRESS) – “We’re not thrilled about taking the team so far away, because it brings some inconveniences, but we need revenue. We don’t yet know how much we’ll earn from the match in Miami, but I can assure you that the income will be significantly higher than what we would have earned playing in Villarreal,” said Barcelona president Joan Laporta, speaking on the sidelines of the assembly to approve the budget forecast for the 2025-26 season.

Laporta revisited the long-standing issue of the La Liga match against the Yellow Submarine being moved to Miami. “The American market is very important for us. All clubs will benefit, but especially those that actually go there to play,” he added.

As for the budget forecast, the wage bill is expected to rise from €534 million to €565 million, but Barça plans to earn €55 million from selling players not in coach Flick’s plans, and €226 million from the revamped Camp Nou, with overall revenue projected to surpass €1 billion.

“I’m confident that the results will be even better than those presented,” Laporta emphasized.

Messi secures the top scorer title of the MLS season with 29 goals

NEW YORK (UNITED STATES) (ITALPRESS) – Lionel Messi never ceases to amaze (or score): the Argentine superstar netted a hat-trick last night in Inter Miami’s 5-2 win over Nashville, securing the title of top scorer of the regular season with 29 goals in 28 matches.

Messi, 38, finished ahead of Denis Bouanga and Sam Surridge, who both stopped at 24 goals.

“What can I say about Leo?” asked his coach and friend Javier Mascherano. “He was exceptional today, as always. He absolutely deserves to be named MVP, given everything he’s shown.”

Inter Miami finished the regular season in third place in the Eastern Conference with 65 points and will face Nashville again in the first round of the playoffs starting on October 24.

Malta deports 88% of irregular migrants arrived this year

Malta deports 88% of irregular migrants arrived this year

VALLETTA (MALTA) (MNA/ITALPRESS) – Nine out of ten irregular migrants who entered Malta this year have already been deported, Interior Minister Byron Camilleri announced on the national radio station. He said the individuals did not qualify for refugee status and were repatriated to their countries of origin.

Camilleri revealed that over 1,000 migrants were deported this year after committing crimes or overstaying their visas. He described 2025 as the year with the highest return rate, noting that 88% of the 146 irregular arrivals — more than 127 people — were sent back.

“This means Malta has registered the biggest rate of return, not to other European countries, but to the migrants’ home countries,” he said. According to the minister, this policy has contributed to a significant decline in sea arrivals.

He emphasised that protection is granted where necessary, citing recent asylum approvals for Palestinians and LGBTIQ persons facing persecution.

Camilleri rejected claims that Malta’s detention centres breach human rights, pointing to a positive report from the Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture, which praised Malta’s detention facilities, prisons, and police lock-ups.

Referring to a recent tragedy in which one migrant died and eleven were rescued in Malta’s search-and-rescue area, he noted that the survivors later entered Italy.

As part of Malta’s Labour Migration Policy, Camilleri announced that a new course on culture, traditions, and rights for foreign workers will begin in January.

Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso “Protests over Miami LaLiga game? Positive”

Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso “Protests over Miami LaLiga game? Positive”

MADRID (SPAIN) (ITALPRESS) – The topic is currently the hottest in Spain, but it’s also being discussed in Italy, given that Milan-Como will most likely be played in Perth, Australia, as will Villarreal-Barcelona in Miami, the United States. “My opinion is the same as the one you asked me two months ago,” says the Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso. “We are against the match abroad, we believe it distorts the competition, and all the clubs are unanimous in their opinion that way.”

Players in the matches scheduled for this round of the Spanish La Liga will remain stationary for the first 15 seconds (yesterday, 10 seconds in Oviedo-Espanyol, but the images were blacked out by La Liga, which did not broadcast the images on TV). “The protests are positive because they represent the sentiment of many clubs,” added Xabi Alonso. “We all agree, but it’s not up to us; only those making the decisions can prevent these protests.”

Graham Potter in talks to replace Tomasson and become Sweden head coach

Graham Potter in talks to replace Tomasson and become Sweden head coach

STOCKHOLM (SWEDEN) (ITALPRESS) – Graham Potter could become the new head coach of Sweden. The 50-year-old English manager, who was dismissed last month by West Ham, is reportedly in talks to replace Jon Dahl Tomasson, who was sacked on Tuesday following the defeat to Kosovo that left Isak and his teammates bottom of Group B in World Cup qualifying, with just one point from four matches.

Potter knows Swedish football well, having coached Östersunds from 2011 to 2018, leading the club from the fourth division to the top flight and winning the national cup in 2017.

Despite their poor start to qualifying, Sweden still has a lifeline — having won their Nations League group, they retain the opportunity to reach the World Cup through the play-offs.
