MADRID (SPAIN) (ITALPRESS) – “I see a team under construction, but one that is growing; five players have arrived and seven have left, and little by little we are beginning to understand what they can offer us, while they are learning what it means to wear this jersey. We are on this journey with the desire to achieve the club’s objectives.” This is what Diego Pablo Simeone told Sky Sport on the eve of the Champions League clash against Manchester United.

“Cholo” is in his 16th season at the helm of Atlético Madrid and retains his trademark infectious enthusiasm—a spirit he has also passed on to Jonathan David, the Canadian forward who arrived from Juventus after a difficult season but has immediately settled in well with the Colchoneros. “He has made a great impact—three goals and an assist in four games. He brings something to the game that we didn’t have before, and he does a tremendous job for the team, including defensively. We followed him with interest when he was at Juventus last year, as well as during his time in France, where he played exceptionally well and scored a lot of goals,” Simeone explained. “When he arrived, we told him we wanted to see the player who had impressed in France, and that we would help him get back to being the key player he truly is.”
