Man City case, UK PM Burnham promises to publish details of meetings with club owners

LONDON (ENGLAND) (ITALPRESS) – Andy Burnham has stated that he will release details of his meetings with Manchester City’s senior management in response to a request from Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch. Following the verdict finding the club guilty of breaching Premier League financial rules, Burnham—who served as Mayor of Greater Manchester until June—had expressed concern that the Emirati owners might decide to sell the club.

“The Leader of the Opposition asked me to publish details of my meetings, something I am happy to do and will do,” Burnham announced on the “Rest Is Politics” podcast. “I will make absolutely public all the activities I undertook while working with them in my previous role as Mayor of Greater Manchester. In reality, none of these meetings are recent. I only had one significant meeting, in fact, and that was in 2021.” Burnham’s earlier remarks had alarmed other Premier League clubs, who feared political interference regarding the appeal process.
