AMPPA, a summer camp for children in Sicily

MARSALA (TRAPANI) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Children aged between 7 and 13 participated in the summer campus of the Interreg Italy-Malta AMPPA project organized within the Naval League of Marsala in collaboration with Marevivo. During these days, importance was given to the knowledge of the coastal territory, to the naturalistic characteristics of the Protected Areas with a particular reference to the MPA of the Egadi Islands and the Oriented Nature Reserve of the Stagnone Islands. The young people, thanks to the important work of experts in environmental education, were able to explore the themes of biodiversity, the protection of the ecosystem, traditional and sustainable fishing, with a particular focus on bluefish. These are all issues that are integrally part of the awareness process envisaged by the “AMPPA – Marine Protected Areas and Artisanal Fishing” project which also includes information and environmental education for the new generations, and to provide more tools and skills to protect our seas, while guaranteeing a better future for everyone. The last event was a day in the open air with a walk on the Stagnone canal and a meeting with a local fisherman. The curious children asked the fisherman many questions about fishing methods, seasonality and ways of consuming fish species on the table. The Amppa Project thanks the President of the Naval League of Marsala Paolo Sata and the organizer of the Summer Campus Giusy Sorrentino “for their great availability and collaboration”.
