Malta registered the fourth victim due to the coronavirus. This was announced this morning by the Ministry for Health. The woman, 96, was being treated at Mater Dei Hospital. She tested positive for coronavirus on April, 16.  Later in the day, the Superintendent of Public Health, Professor Charmaine Gauci said “the victim had other chronic health conditions which worsened her health situation.”

Meanwhile, Prof. Gauci confirmed one new positive case of COVID-19 and that 26 patients have recovered from coronavirus. A total of 249 people have recovered from coronavirus while the number of active cases is of 195.

The Maltese Health Authorities are insisting that although the new COVID-19 cases are low, this does not mean that the virus is over. In the last 24 hours, only two cases were confirmed positive while 19 more patients have recovered.
The Superintendent of Public Health, Professor Charmaine Gauci said that the new cases are female care worker, aged 60 and a male aged 43 who works in a private company.
Malta had 447 positive cases out of which 223 have recovered and 221 are still active. The Superintendent for Public Health said that till now no one has resulted positive for the virus twice. She said that people who have tested positive to the virus should not be emarginated from society as anyone can contract the virus.

More than a third of the infected persons with coronavirus in Malta have recovered. This was confirmed by the local health authorities. The number of COVID-19 cases is Malta reached 444; 276 are considered as active cases, 165 have recovered and three people have died.

The Superintendent of Public Health, Professor Charmaine Gauci said that 15 people have recovered and a new case was registered in the last 24 hours. The new case is an 18-year-old Maltese woman and the health authorities confirmed that two family members have shown symptoms of the virus.

Prof. Gauci explained that the people who have recovered from the virus are asked to remain in quarantine for 7 days. Meanwhile, the migrants at Ħal Far open centre who are found positive to COVID-19 are being kept in isolation from the rest of the residents and they are continuously monitored by health authorities even when they recover.

The Superintendent of Public Health also confirmed that 44 health workers were found positive to COVID-19 as from March 9, and they work for both government and private entities.

The Maltese health authorities confirmed that more migrants residing at the Ħal Far open centre are being confirmed positive for the coronavirus. The Superintendent of Public Health, Professor Charmaine Gauci said that in the last 24 hours, Malta registered four new cases, three of them are of migrants from Marocco, Somalia and Sudan. Prof. Gauci said that the Ħal Far Open centre is still under quarantine and the positive cases are being kept in isolation. The total number of positive COVID-19 cases from the Ħal Far Open centre stands at 38.
The other new case confirmed in the last 24 hours is a Maltese male aged 59. In total 302 cases are still active.
Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Public Health confirmed that 8 patients have recovered from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing it to a total 126 recovery cases.

Malta has registered just one positive case of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours while more patients are recovering from the virus. This was confirmed by the Superintendent of Public Health, Professor Charmaine Gauci in her daily media brief.

Referring to the low number of positive cases reported during these last days, Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela said that the government is cautious but optmistic about the lifting of some of the precautionary measures. But Professor Gauci declared that it is still not the right time for certain measures to be lifted. She added that once the authorities announce such decisions, these will be followed under strict supervision.

19 more people have recovered from coronavirus but they will remain in quarantine; 14 male and 5 women. Only one new person has been confirmed as a new positive COVD-19 case. The new case is a Serbian woman aged 29 who resides and works in Malta.

A total number of 118 persons have recovered so far from the virus. This leaves 306 active cases. Prof. Gauci appealed to the Maltese to follow the authorities’ instructions to continue maintaining the positive cases as low as possible.

Meanwhile, no new positive cases were reported from the Ħal Far Open Centre. The total number of  migrants residing in this open centre who have tested positive for coronavirus stands at 35.

Patients infected by the coronavirus continued to recover in Malta as few more new cases were registered in the last 24 hours. The Superintendent of Public Health, Professor Charmaine Gauci confirmed that eight patients have successfully recovered from COVID-19 while four new cases were registered. The new cases are all foreigners; a 43-year-old Italian man who was in contact with a previously reported case and three migrants, two from Bangladesh and one from Sudan residing at the Ħal Far open centre.

The number of coronavirus cases reported in Malta is at 426. This means that 324 cases are still active. Two patients are still receiving treatment at the intensive care unit. 99 patients have recovered completely from the virus.

The Superintendent of Public Health said that despite the low number of new cases, the health authorities need to be sure about the rate of infection within the community. “The authorities are carrying out the test for coronavirus on people who die suddenly or without a clear cause of death after it was pointed out that in some countries, states have revised the official death toll,” said Gauci.

Prof. Gauci confirmed that the health authorities are working on a strategy about the lifting of the preventive measures . Referring to the situation in Japan, Prof. Gauci said that one needs to be cautious and it is very important that the public abide by the instructions to keep the number cases as low as possibile. She urged the public to cooperate so that the situation remains under control.

The Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela has asked the Malta Police Force to start investigating him after the non-governmental organisation ‘Repubblika’ filed a criminal case against the Prime Minister, the highest officials of the Armed Forces of Malta and 11 other officials of vessel P52, accusing them for the voluntary homicide of migrants who lost their lives in the Mediterranean Sea in the past few days.
In a press conference late Friday night, Robert Abela confirmed that he a magisterial inquiry will be launched. The Prime Minister stated that he has a clean conscience, as his government has been doing its best to safeguard the health and well-being of the Maltese nation.
The Labour Government has decided to close all seaports, declaring them unsafe due to the spreading of coronavirus. “Due to the current crisis, the Government does not have the resources needed to rescue migrants and provide them with a safe place,” declared Abela.
Last Wednesday, the International Organisation of Migration confirmed that five migrants were dead and seven others still reported missing, after a boat of 51 survivors which was adrift in the Maltese search and rescue area was pushed back to Libya.
One of the lawyers representing the NGO ‘Repubblika’ is Jasan Aazzopardi, the Opposistion spokesperson for Justice. During yesterday’s press conference, the Prime Minister referred to Jason Azzopardi by name, declaring that the Nationalist Oppoisition is also implied since Azzopardi is one of the lawyers behind the criminal case against him and the highest officials of the Armed Forces.
However, on Friday morning, the Leader of the Opposition, Adrian Delia, visited the Armed Forces of Malta where he met the highest officials, and praised them for their work describing them as “Malta’s shield”.
Meanwhile, the European Court of Human Rights refused Repubblika’s urgent request to give an interim measure to the Maltese and Italian governments to leave the refugees who escape from Libya stranded in the Mediterranean enter both countries.

The health authorities in Malta confirmed that more patients are recovering from the coronavirus. Addressing the daily media brief, the Superintendent of Public Health, Professor Chairmaine Gauci said that in the last 24 hours, nine patients who have recovered completely, bringing the total to 91 patients.

Professor Gauci added that 10 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total number to 422, out of which 330 are active cases. From the new cases, six are foreigners coming from Colombia, Nepal, the United Kingdom and the other foreigners are Sudanese migrants residing at Hal Far open centre. The rest are Maltese; one of cases is travel related and another one concerns a health worker who was in contact with a patient.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Health Chris Fearne in a television interview said that the local authorties may start lifting some of the preventive measures in the coming weeks; but this only depends if the general public collaborate with the health authorities and Malta continue to register less positive COVID-19 cases. During the press briefing, the Superintendent of Public Health did not refer to any particular measures that the authorties may lift, once the rate of infected cases reaches its lower levels.

Malta has registered six new cases of COVID-19, three of these cases are migrants residing at the open centre in Ħal Far. The other three cases are a Gozitan woman aged 38 who works in a hotel; a Maltese man, 60, who works in the public service and a 21-year old Maltese student. Up to now Malta and Gozo have registered a total of 399 cases and over 20,000 medical tests were carried out by the health authorities.

The Superintendent of Public Health, Professor Charmaine Gauci said that altough the number of positive cases was relatively low during the last days, it does not reflect the actual situation within the community. “The Health authorties will continue to assess new COVID-19 cases over a long period of time to conclude whether the virus has reached its peak in Malta and Gozo.” While referring to those European countries who started lifting the precautionary measures, Prof. Gauci declared that Malta is not ready yet to lift such measures against the spreading of the coronavirus.

Gauci said that the authorities are experiencing a new reality; people suffering from anxiety due to the coronavirus situation. It was confirmed that the Maltese government is collaborating with a local non-governmental organisation to give pschological help to those affected.

In the last 24 hours, Malta registered 9 new cases of COVID-19; three of the cases are migrants residing at the Ħal Far open centre. Till today, Malta has registered a total of 393 coronavirus cases.
The Superintendent of Public Health, Professor Charmaine Gauci confirmed that two people are still in intensive care, one of the patients is breathing through the help of a ventilator while over 40 patients have recovered from the virus.
The new cases include a Maltese pensioner aged 71, a Maltese woman, 50, a Maltese man, 30, a British woman, 23, who resides in Malta and an Indian carer, 34, working at an old people’s home which is under lockdown. The three migrants are from Ivory Coast, Tunisia and Sudan. Professor Gauci stressed that the contingency plan is to continue isolating people at the open centre.
