Morocco to host first International Conference dedicated to African victims of terror

RABAT (MOROCCO) (ITALPRESS) – The Kingdom of Morocco will host the first International Conference dedicated to African victims of terrorism on December 2–3, 2025, a major event aimed at highlighting the human consequences of terrorism in Africa and strengthening support and resilience mechanisms across the continent.
Organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, with the support of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), the conference is an unprecedented initiative that places African victims of terrorism at the centre of the strategic debate on preventing and combating violent extremism.

The gathering in Rabat will bring together representatives of African governments, international and regional organisations, associations representing victims of terrorism, researchers and experts. Discussions will also focus on the crucial role played by survivors in prevention and resilience initiatives, through their testimonies, experience, and contributions to rebuilding affected communities.

Participants will address key issues such as the human impact of terrorism and the legal, institutional and socio-economic challenges involved in assisting victims. The event forms part of the partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, exemplified in particular by the opening in Rabat of the UNOCT Programme Office for Africa.

Now a leading continental platform, this office promotes an African approach to counter-terrorism based on solidarity, capacity-building and national ownership of public policies. With this initiative, Morocco reaffirms its commitment to a solidarity-driven, human-centered and inclusive approach to counter-terrorism, placing victims and their rights at the heart of regional and international action.

Malta re-elected to IMO Council, citing strong global support

Malta re-elected to IMO Council, citing strong global support

VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Malta has been re-elected to Category C of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Council during the 34th IMO Assembly in London, securing what the Transport Ministry described as “an excellent voting result” among candidate countries.

The ministry said the outcome strengthens Malta’s standing as a global maritime leader and reflects the trust placed in the country by the IMO’s 176 member states.

Minister for Transport Chris Bonett welcomed the result, calling Malta “a maritime nation” whose re-election confirms international recognition of its role as Europe’s largest ship registry and the world’s sixth-largest merchant fleet.

Bonett said the vote endorses the government’s maritime vision, including efforts to support the transition to net-zero emissions, improve seafarer training in developing states, and contribute to global maritime policy.

A renewed seat on the council will allow Malta to promote responsible shipping practices and reinforce its position as the Mediterranean’s leading maritime hub.

During the Assembly, Malta also announced a financial contribution to the IMO’s technical training fund, reaffirming its commitment to capacity building in developing maritime nations.

Malta has been elected to the IMO Council for 15 consecutive terms since joining the organisation in 1966.

Barcelona, Flick comforted by Raphinha after Alaves match. Club sources “On-field matters”

BARCELONA (SPAIN) (ITALPRESS) – Hansi Flick, nearly in tears and “comforted” by Raphinha: this was the moment captured on camera yesterday at the end of Barcelona’s 3–1 win over Alavés. The episode raised several questions and even concern within the Blaugrana environment, but club sources contacted by Mundo Deportivo “ruled out any issues” and assured that the German coach “was simply angry about a couple of situations that occurred during the match.”

Specifically, Flick ended the game “irritated with the fourth official,” Álvaro Canovas Garcia-Villarrubia, due to the red cards shown for dissent to goalkeeping coach José Ramón de la Fuente and assistant coach Marcus Sorg — both of whom will now miss the upcoming Liga match against Atlético Madrid.

According to MD, another factor that infuriated Flick was the penalty not awarded to Lamine Yamal in the first half.

Malta’s economy grows 5.7% as net exports drive Q3 gains

Malta’s economy grows 5.7% as net exports drive Q3 gains

VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Malta’s Gross Domestic Product rose to €6.345 billion in the third quarter of 2025, a 5.7% increase in nominal terms compared to a year earlier, according to new figures from the National Statistics Office. Growth in volume terms reached 3.0%, with a 2.6% rise in the GDP deflator indicating that price effects remain a key component of overall expansion.

The latest data point to a cooling in momentum. Gross value added contributed 2.1 percentage points to growth, down sharply from 4.4 points in the first quarter. Domestic demand added 1.6 points, while net exports contributed 1.5 points, signalling a shift toward foreign trade as the primary engine of expansion.

Service activities continued to dominate Malta’s economic structure, contributing 2.4 percentage points to GVA growth. Accommodation and food services posted a standout 12.4% increase, with trade and administrative support services also expanding. Industry provided a marginal boost, while agriculture and fishing detracted from growth.

Household consumption rose 3.2% and government spending increased 0.8%, but investment weakened. Gross fixed capital formation fell 1.4% in volume terms, with inventory accumulation offsetting declines in fixed assets.

Exports grew 3.9% and imports 3.1%, resulting in a positive net trade contribution—the reverse of recent quarters when domestic demand played a larger role.

On the income side, nominal GDP increased by €343.4 million, driven mainly by employee compensation and corporate operating surplus. Gross National Income reached €5.743 billion, underscoring a continued gap with GDP due to income flows to non-residents.

FIFA fights time-wasting, 2-minute out for players requesting medical assistance

FIFA fights time-wasting, 2-minute out for players requesting medical assistance

ROME (ITALPRESS) – As a deterrent against time-wasting, FIFA is considering introducing a new rule: a mandatory two-minute stay off the pitch for any player who requests medical staff intervention for an alleged injury. The idea was discussed by Pierluigi Collina, FIFA’s head of referees, in an interview with Qatari radio station Al Kass, as reported by Al Jazeera.

The new rule will be tested at the Arab Cup, held in Qatar from 1 to 18 December. The goal is to discourage players who simulate injuries, as this would force their team to play with ten men for two minutes—unless the opposing player responsible for the foul is booked or sent off, or if the injured player is the goalkeeper.

FIFA is also reportedly considering additional measures to speed up the game, such as enforcing the 8-second limit for goalkeepers to put the ball back into play. Failure to comply would result in a corner kick for the opposing team. This rule was successfully tested at the recent Under-17 World Cup, where referees never found themselves needing to penalize goalkeepers.

Brazil, Neymar leads Santos to win with a broken meniscus

Brazil, Neymar leads Santos to win with a broken meniscus

SAO PAULO (BRAZIL) (ITALPRESS) – A heroic Neymar. Despite the meniscus tear that, according to the Brazilian press, should have prevented him from playing for the final matchdays of the season, the 33-year-old former PSG striker played for Santos, making a decisive contribution with a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win over Sport Recife. A vital victory for Peixe, who leaves the relegation zone.

“Physically I’m fine, I’m gradually feeling better. This injury saddens and bothers me, but it’s nothing that can prevent me from playing. Now I’m thinking about Santos, leaving it where it deserves to be, in Serie A. Then we’ll see what to do,” he said regarding his future.
