Malta reaffirms support for EU and UN efforts in Libya

Malta reaffirms support for EU and UN efforts in Libya

LA VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Malta is prepared to play an active role in revitalized European Union and United Nations initiatives aimed at fostering lasting stability and institutional unity in Libya. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ian Borg while speaking on recent tensions in Tripoli.

Borg voiced Malta’s deep concern over the situation, warning that the escalating unrest highlights the fragile and volatile nature of Libya’s current state. “The recent escalation serves as a stark reminder that the current fragility is untenable. Underlying divisions are deepening, and the risk of renewed conflict is very real,” he said.

Borg welcomed Italy’s recent call for a more engaged EU approach to Libya, saying it strengthens the ongoing UN-led peace process. “Malta has always maintained that real, sustainable progress depends on a genuinely inclusive, Libyan-owned process,” he said.

“However, continued international engagement remains essential, particularly to safeguard Libya’s sovereignty, ensure full respect for the arms embargo, and advance the withdrawal of foreign forces.”

Guardiola warns: “Reduce the squad or I’m leaving”

Guardiola warns: “Reduce the squad or I’m leaving”

MANCHESTER (ENGLAND) (ITALPRESS) – Pep Guardiola slams oversized squads. The Manchester City manager has publicly called on his club to reduce their squad size, threatening to step down if the club doesn’t comply with his request in the summer.

“I don’t want to leave five or six players in the freezer. If they build a shorter squad, I’ll stay. If not, I’ll leave,” the Spanish manager said after the 3-1 win over Bournemouth.

On Tuesday, Guardiola left Abdukodir Khusanov, Savinho, James McAtee, Claudio Echeverri and Rico Lewis in the stands. “It’s difficult for me to tell my players to go to the stands and not play. For three or four months we had difficulty fielding eleven players because we had no defenders and it was a very difficult period. But now we have the injured players back and we can’t continue like this next season,” added the 54-year-old, who last November renewed his contract until June 2027.

Europa League final, all or nothing for Tottenham and Manchester United

Europa League final, all or nothing for Tottenham and Manchester United

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Finding a smile in a bitter season. The Europa League final between Tottenham and Manchester United, at San Mamés in Bilbao, sounds like a lifeline for the two teams, sunk into the depths of the Premier League but able to at least move forward in Europe. The continental competition for the Spurs and the Red Devils is therefore an opportunity to redeem and return to triumph in Europe.

“Irrespective of tomorrow, I’m not a clown and never will be,” said Postecoglou. “You really disappointed me that you used such terminology to describe a person that for 26 years, without any favours from anyone, has worked his way to a position where he is leading out a club in a European final. For you to suggest that somehow us not being successful means that I’m a clown, I’m not sure how to answer that question”, said Postecoglu at the press conference, responding vehemently to a reporter’s article.

“I think it’s hard to speak about it in this moment because we need to be excited and confident but we already know the problems”, said Amorim. “There are a lot of things we need to change in our club. The way we do everything during the week in Carrington, the recruitment, the academy I think we need to improve. It’s hard to point one thing. That will not be solved by winning a cup. I will say it again, for me we have bigger things to deal with to put this club back to the top”, concluded the Portuguese coach.

Klopp-Roma, his agent denies: “It’s total nonsense”

Klopp-Roma, his agent denies: “It’s total nonsense”

BERLIN (GERMANY) (ITALPRESS) – “Total nonsense. It’s getting boring to have to continually comment on these rumors.” Jurgen Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, told Bild, denying the rumors that have been circulating in the last few hours about an alleged agreement between the former Liverpool manager and AsRoma.

Since January, Klopp has held the position of “Global Head of Soccer” at Red Bull, with the task of managing the company’s football network, which includes a total of six clubs.

During the morning, before the denial of the entourage, the president of Coni, Giovanni Malagò, had also commented on the rumors related to the German and the Giallorossi bench. “A lot of people ask me, I swear I know nothing. Klopp is a name that makes you dream. Honestly, and maybe I’m proven wrong, I would be very surprised if it were him. Not because I don’t think it’s a good choice, but it seems to me, from what I know, that he has made other life choices and above all professional ones.”

“Jurgen is very satisfied with his new job,” Kosicke said recently. The casting for the Roma bench continues.

Leicester City have been reported for alleged financial breaches

Leicester City have been reported for alleged financial breaches

LEICESTER (ENGLAND)(ITALPRESS) – Leicester are in fresh trouble after their mathematical relegation to the Championship. The Premier League has announced in a statement that, following the decision of an arbitration tribunal, the club has been referred to an independent commission for alleged financial violations dating back to the end of the 2023/24 season, when the Foxes were playing in the English second division and, under the guidance of Enzo Maresca (now at Chelsea), were promoted to the top flight.

In particular, “the rules on the profit and sustainability of the championship for the 2023/24 season” were allegedly infringed, in addition to the club’s obligations “to make its annual financial accounts available to the Premier League by 31 December 2024” and “to provide full and timely assistance to the Premier League in response to requests from the League”.

As the statement reads, “the Tribunal confirmed that the Premier League has jurisdiction to investigate an alleged breach of the P&S (Profit & Sustainability, ed.) Regulations as the EFL correctly transferred responsibility for the investigation to the Premier League in June 2024, when the club was promoted from the Championship”. The Premier League will continue to have jurisdiction even after Leicester’s relegation at the end of this season.

Malta and Jordan sign new cooperation agreements

LA VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Malta and Jordan have further strengthened their bilateral ties following a series of new cooperation agreements signed during Prime Minister Robert Abela’s eighth official visit to the Hashemite Kingdom. The agreements span several key areas, including tourism, education, culture, energy, and water, and aim to deepen collaboration between the two nations.

During his visit, Prime Minister Abela held high-level talks with King Abdullah II at Al Husseinieh Palace in Amman. Abela described the visit as an important opportunity to elevate bilateral relations.

Among the key developments, both countries signed a framework agreement to establish a permanent joint economic commission to enhance economic collaboration. Additional agreements were reached in technical cooperation on energy and water, tourism sector development, and a cultural agreement focusing on archiving and the Maltese language.

The leaders also discussed urgent regional matters, particularly the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Abela also commended Jordan’s enduring commitment to hosting millions of refugees over the years, including from Palestine and Syria, and acknowledged the country’s vital role in promoting regional dialogue and peace.

Laporta “We are working on Yamal’s renewal, he is happy at Barcelona”

BARCELONA (SPAIN) (ITALPRESS) – “Everything will be fine. Lamine is an exceptional boy and he is happy in Barcelona. We are working to find an agreement”. This was stated in an interview with TV3 by Barcelona president Joan Laporta, declaring himself optimistic about the negotiations for the renewal of the contract of the champion Lamine Yamal, who should sign the extension as soon as he comes of age (July 13).

“We want him to stay here for many years – added the number one of the Blaugrana club -. So far there have been no problems with his entourage, on the contrary, this story will end well”. A significant adjustment to the salary is expected because the salary “must be in line with the importance of the player within the team, regardless of his age”, stated Laporta. “We have to make him feel important. Barcelona is the best possible club for him: he is Catalan, a Blaugrana fan, and is well advised“, he concluded.
