Roberto De Zerbi to stay at Marseille next season

MARSEILLE (FRANCE) (ITALPRESS) – Roberto De Zerbi will remain on the Marseille bench next season. This was announced by the French club in a note on their website, in which it is also reported that sporting director Medhi Benatia will also retain his position. The decision was taken after a meeting between owner Frank McCourt, chairman of the supervisory board Jeff Ingram and club president Pablo Longoria with Benatia and De Zerbi himself.

“The two days of discussions consolidated and reaffirmed the unity of the management team around a shared vision, essential to the long-term viability of the project launched in the summer of 2024. Malta, Sicilian and Spanish nationals remanded over drug possession

Malta, Sicilian and Spanish nationals remanded over drug possession

LA VALLETTA (MALTA/MNA) (ITALPRESS) – A 29-year-old Sicilian man and a Spanish woman of the same age were remanded in custody after appearing in court on serious drug-related charges. C.P and M.C.J. were accused of aggravated possession of a substantial quantity of drugs, including ecstasy pills, cocaine, MDMA, pink cocaine, and amphetamines.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, two nights ago, when police officers on patrol in Gzira observed suspicious activity involving a vehicle.
According to prosecutors, the car entered a residential block and exited shortly afterward. When the driver noticed he was being followed, he attempted to evade officers by entering a one-way street, where he was promptly arrested.

A subsequent search led to the seizure of €1,100 in cash, two mobile phones, and two keys belonging to a common door of an apartment where the narcotics were later discovered. The defence initially requested C.P.’s release from custody. However, the court was told that Pennisi is unemployed, lacks a documented fixed address, and has no established ties to Malta. Furthermore, a third person is expected to testify in the ongoing investigation. The same conditions applied to M.C.J.. The defence later withdrew its request for bail after the magistrate ruled that Pennisi’s parents—called to testify—could not even provide their own address. The court emphasized that the accused had no known local connections and that further testimony was pending.

In addition to ordering the freezing of both defendants’ assets, the court recommended that C.P. and M.C.J. receive medical and psychological assistance, citing evident drug addiction issues.

The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to piece together the extent of the alleged drug operation.

Xavi Could Take another Sabbatical Year

Xavi Could Take another Sabbatical Year

BARCELONA (SPAIN) (ITALPRESS) – Having left the Barcelona bench at the end of last season, Xavi will decide what to do in the coming weeks and, according to “As”, it cannot be ruled out that he will take another sabbatical year to live as a mere fan, in addition to treating himself to a few more games with the Blaugrana Legends.

The proposals, on the other hand, are not lacking: Juve and Milan have reportedly knocked on his door, but Xavi has declined, preferring to avoid a bench during the season as already happened in his time at Barça, when in November 2021 he took the place of the exonerated Koeman.

The most concrete alternative to a new sabbatical year would be a national team in view of the 2026 World Cup, a solution compatible with his desire to spend more time with his family. By the way, when he was coach of Al Sadd, Xavi had been contacted by Brazil to be Tite’s assistant at the World Cup in Qatar with the promise of a ‘promotion’ at the end of the tournament.

Klopp-Roma, the coach’s denial “I don’t comment on these rumours”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – “I will no longer comment on these rumors.” Jurgen Klopp, on the sidelines of an award ceremony in Wiesbaden, cuts short the rumors that have seen him linked to the Giallorossi bench.

But the former Liverpool coach, now responsible for football at Red Bull, is not the only one to deny a possible move to the capital. Nuno Espirito Santo, current coach of Nottingham Forest, has also been indicated as a possible candidate: “Do you really think I will waste time on these things? It seems like you read so much around, but my only goal is to prepare the team, look for the best solutions and take care of the details for the players. Nothing else.”

Doubts for Amorim’s future, Manchester United thinks about Allegri

Doubts for Amorim’s future, Manchester United thinks about Allegri

LONDON (ENGLAND) (ITALPRESS) – “I still think I am the right man for this club, even more than before. I know that the patience of the fans next season will be short but I assure you that I will not resign or leave. I know what it means to coach United and what this team needs. If they then tell me that it is better to change, I will leave. If the club and the fans believe that I am not the right person, the next day I will pack my bags. But I will not be the one to give up, I believe in my work and I will not change anything in the way I do things”.

So far, the thoughts of Ruben Amorim after the umpteenth disappointment of his adventure at Manchester United, perhaps the biggest, namely the defeat in the Europa League final against Tottenham.

The “Sun”, however, is not certain of the confirmation of the Portuguese coach, who arrived on the Red Devils bench with the team at -7 from the Champions League and finished at -27. According to the English tabloid in the event of a divorce, among the bookmakers’ favorites would be Massimiliano Allegri, formerly of Milan and Juventus, esteemed by a club legend such as Sir Alex Ferguson.

Among the possible heirs is also Josè Mourinho and for him, currently at Fenerbahce, it would be a return to Old Trafford. Also on the list is the Ipswich manager, Kieran McKenna, the Crystal Palace manager, Oliver Glasner, winner of the FA Cup in the final against Man City, the Argentine Mauricio Pochettino, former Tottenham and current United States coach, and the former England coach, Gareth Southgate.

Malta, Freedom Flotilla vessel damaged by two aerial strikes

Malta, Freedom Flotilla vessel damaged by two aerial strikes

LA VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – The Freedom Flotilla Coalition has accused Israeli forces of targeting one of its vessels, the Conscience, in two separate aerial attacks near Maltese territorial waters earlier this month. The vessel, part of a humanitarian mission to Gaza, suffered significant damage and an on-board fire, according to a report released by Maltese authorities.

The Marine Casualty Damage Report confirms that the Conscience sustained two aerial strikes on its upper deck, causing a fire but ruling out the possibility of an internal explosion. The vessel was carrying no weapons or flammable materials, further supporting the coalition’s claim that the fire resulted from external military action.

The incident occurred as the Conscience was en route to Malta to collect humanitarian supplies and 44 passengers who were to join the mission to Gaza. The attacks also stranded crew members at sea, all of whom have since been safely repatriated.

Despite the Maltese report, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition expressed frustration over the lack of international response and transparency. “Maltese and EU authorities have still not allowed an independent, international forensic investigation of the Conscience”, the coalition stated. “This refusal to ensure full transparency and accountability is deeply troubling”.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition is preparing a new mission using a yacht named Madleen, dedicated to establishing a sea corridor to Gaza outside Israeli control. “The Madleen will sail soon to challenge Israel’s criminal blockade”, said the coalition.

Maltese activist Aquilina pays tribute to Giovanni Falcone in Palermo

Maltese activist Aquilina pays tribute to Giovanni Falcone in Palermo

LA VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Robert Aquilina, a leading anti-corruption activist and representative of the Falcone Foundation in Malta, traveled to Palermo to take part in a solemn commemoration marking the anniversary of the assassination of Italian anti-mafia judge Giovanni Falcone, his wife Francesca Morvillo, and the police officers who were escorting them on May 23, 1992.

Aquilina drew a poignant parallel between the assassination of Judge Falcone and the murder of Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. “Giovanni Falcone was brutally killed using the same infamous method by which Daphne Caruana Galizia was murdered in our country,” Aquilina stated, referencing the use of a car bomb in both attacks. He emphasized the moral responsibility borne by all citizens to carry forward the fight for justice and truth. “Each one of us has a moral duty to continue the fight for which these heroes gave their lives,” Aquilina said, underscoring the enduring legacy of both Falcone and Caruana Galizia in the fight against organized crime and corruption.
