Club World Cup, Donnarumma and Hakimi “Happy to face Messi”

Club World Cup, Donnarumma and Hakimi “Happy to face Messi”

ROME (ITALPRESS) – He didn’t have his best seasons in Paris, he still had an impact, but his feeling with Psg never reached high levels. However, he had a good relationship with some teammates and in 5 days he will face them, in Atlanta, in the round of 16 of the Club World Cup. Lionel Messi and PSG will meet again in a “rendezvous” that in France conquers the front pages of newspapers and sports websites.

“For us and also for me, on a personal level, it’s fantastic to meet Leo again. I spent two years with him, that is, with the greatest player in the world. Obviously we will do everything to beat him, he has already won so many titles and we want to go all the way”, says PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma after the 2-0 win over Seattle Sounders and regarding the match against Inter Miami in the round of 16.

Achraf Hakimi is on the same wavelength. “I played with him for two years at PSG and we had a lot of fun. It’s nice to meet him again, but on the pitch there are no friends, he will want to win and we will too”, the words of the former Inter winger.

John Textor to sell Crystal Palace stake, Europa League closer for Glaziers

John Textor to sell Crystal Palace stake, Europa League closer for Glaziers

LONDON (ENGLAND) (ITALPRESS) – Crystal Palace is taking a step towards Europe. At the beginning of the month, the club – which by winning the FA Cup final against Manchester City had earned a place in the next Europa League – had been received by UEFA regarding multi-club ownership rules that put their participation in the cups at risk.

John Textor holds 43% of the club but is also a majority shareholder of Lyon, which will play in the Europa League next season. Not even the hypothesis of relegation to the Conference was feasible: David Blitzer owns shares in both the English club and Broendby, and UEFA in these cases gives priority to the team that has placed better in the championship, it would be the Danes who play in the third continental competition.

But Crystal Palace may have solved the problem: american billionaire Woody Johnson agreeing to buy John Textor’s 43% stake in the club, an investment of over 220 million euros, according to BBC.

Belgium’s Mertens announces retirement from football

Belgium’s Mertens announces retirement from football

NAPLES (ITALPRESS) – Dries Mertens has decided: it’s time to say enough with playing football. At 38, the Belgian striker, fresh from his experience at Galatasaray, will hang up his boots.

Mertens, who last June 6, when he was awarded honorary citizenship of Naples, had not yet committed himself to the future, almost involuntarily announced his retirement in a video message on social media addressed to Marek Hamsik: “I can’t wait to play my last match with you. I’ve stopped playing football but I’ll put my boots on one last time for you. You’ll always be my captain, the best I’ve ever played with. Greetings from Naples”.

The all-time top scorer with the Neapolitan shirt (148 goals in nine seasons, from 2013 to 2022), Mertens should therefore take part in Hamsik’s farewell match scheduled for July 5 in Bratislava.

Malta public sector hit by cyberattacks

Malta public sector hit by cyberattacks

VALLETTA (MALTA) (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Malta’s public sector employees were targeted in several cyberattacks during the country’s high-profile tenure on the UN Security Council and its 2024 chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), according to the Malta Security Service (MSS).

The MSS’s 2023 and 2024 annual reports, tabled in Parliament by Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri, revealed that Malta experienced “a number of cyber incidents” over this period. These included phishing attempts aimed at government staff, ransomware attacks on small and medium businesses, and denial of service (DDoS) attacks intended to disrupt online services.

While no direct link was found between Malta’s diplomatic engagements and the cyber incidents, the MSS noted that the country’s increased international visibility likely raised its cyber-risk profile.

The secret service said most attacks were financially motivated or aimed at service disruption, rather than sophisticated espionage attempts. However, the MSS warned that Malta’s role in sensitive global discussions, including digital regulation and AI governance, demands stronger cybersecurity measures. “Maintaining secure communication channels is essential to protect Malta’s credibility in international forums,” the report stressed.
