Glasner announces departure from Crystal Palace at the end of the season

LONDON (ENGLAND) (ITALPRESS) – Oliver Glasner has officially announced his decision to leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season. The Austrian coach’s contract expires in June and, as confirmed by Glasner himself, it will not be renewed. A decision that has been in the making for some time and already shared with the London club’s management, now opening up significant scenarios and fueling speculation about a possible move to Manchester United.

“I informed the club months ago that I wanted a new challenge,” Glasner explained yesterday at a press conference. “We had a very long discussion and I made it clear to chairman Steve Parish that I would not sign a new contract. At the time, we agreed that it was best to keep it confidential. That was done in everyone’s interest, but now it’s right to clarify things.”

The coach stressed that the decision to make the announcement public came only now for reasons of timing and opportunity. “We went through a very intense period, with many matches close together, and that’s why we didn’t want to talk about it earlier. Steve and I both want what’s best for Crystal Palace,” he added.

Appointed at Selhurst Park in February 2024 to succeed Roy Hodgson, Glasner made his mark. Under his guidance, Palace won a historic FA Cup last season and, overall, the Austrian recorded 41 wins in 95 official matches. Figures that have helped strengthen his profile on the international stage.

Glasner’s name has now firmly entered Manchester United’s radar and, following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, with the Red Devils entrusting the bench to Michael Carrick on an interim basis until the end of the season, this possibility has gathered increasing momentum. “There have been rumors about me since I arrived here. Honestly, they don’t bother me,” Glasner said last week. “Today a coach can sign a contract and leave in the summer, the same applies to players. That’s why, in modern football, the length of a contract says nothing about the future.”
