Piantedosi: “Work alone is not enough to achieve integration”

RIMINI (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said immigration and integration remain central to the government’s agenda, stressing that economic inclusion cannot succeed without cultural and civic integration.
“This is a government that has placed the issue of integration at the top of its agenda, and it has planned the entry of nearly one million immigrants to bring them into the workforce,” Piantedosi said at the Rimini Meeting.
But he warned that employment alone will not guarantee successful integration. “To imagine building walls is illusory and practically useless. Humanity has always been shaped by migratory flows,” the minister said. “Governments, however, can and must govern these epochal processes. It is up to us to set the criteria for entry into our countries.”
According to Piantedosi, integration requires more than jobs. “Work alone is not enough to integrate people. Those who choose to come to Europe do so because they choose our freedom, our democracy, and our plural and equal society. If we forget this, we will never achieve full integration,” he explained.
“In Italy, we are valued for these principles-let us never forget it. That is why people choose us,” the minister concluded.
