Morocco announces its digital strategy
NEW YORK (ITALPRESS/MNA) – Morocco has presented its Digital Morocco 2030 strategy, with the ambition of positioning the country as a digital hub and regional leader.
The magazine Finances News Hebdo explained that with a budget of 1 billion dollars between 2024 and 2026, the North African country’s Digital strategy aims to create jobs, digitize public services, support the startup ecosystem and deploy 5G.
According to sources, it is expected to generate 240,000 direct jobs in the digital sector by 2030, with 100,000 young people trained each year. “This figure includes 50,000 retrained professionals to prepare local talent for digital professions. This massive training programme represents a clear progress compared to the 14,000 young people trained in 2022.
The strategy also places particular emphasis on promoting the digital economy. Among the main objectives is the increase in revenues from digital exports, which are expected to increase from 1.5 billion dollars in 2023 to almost 4 billion dollars by 2030. This involves the expansion of outsourcing, the creation of 3,000 startups by 2030.
On the digitalization of public services, “The government aims to make Morocco the top 50 in the world in the online services index by 2030″.
Reforms are planned in several key sectors, including health with the speeding up of telemedicine and the improvement of digital infrastructure in hospitals, education with priority on distance learning and digital training of teachers, and social protection, aiming for better accessibility of social services through unified systems digital platforms.
The implementation of 5G is one of the most important projects of this strategy. The government expects 5G coverage to reach 70% by 2030. At the same time, 5.6 million homes will be connected to fiber optics.
Improving the Internet network throughout the country, especially in 1,800 rural areas, is one of the priorities to ensure that the digital transition benefits the entire population. The creation of a national cloud is also being planned.
